How to Budget Travel Regardless of Your Destination

By Phillip Paoletta

Many travelers assume that certain destinations are off limits because of their high costs. Whether it's the price of accommodation or dining out, some places certainly have a deserved reputation for being expensive. That said, there are a number of strategies you can take to enjoy a costly destination without breaking the bank.
Try a home-stay or housesitting
Accommodation is often the most expensive item in a traveler's budget. Fortunately, there are many ways to save money and there also ways to not spend any money at all. A home-stay allows you to experience local culture while paying a fraction of the cost you would spend at a typical hotel. Simply search on google or another search engine for "name of your destination+home-stays." Alternatively, you can look into housesitting. In this case, you are taking care of someone's house while they are away. Responsibilities are typically limited and there is often no cost on your part. Check out websites like trustedhousesitters.com for more information.
Have a picnic
After accommodation, dining is right up there when it comes to putting a dent in your budget. A great way to save money on dining costs is to enjoy a picnic at a local park. Pick up a few things from the supermarket or from street food vendors and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of eating and people watching. Not only will you save money on food costs, you will also get a window into local culture that is completely free.
Take advantage of deals
Many travelers are unaware of local deals and promotions. Do some research in advance and also ask locals for recommendations. Lunch menus often offer the best deal. While an expensive restaurant may be too costly for dinner, they may have some great deals for lunch. Some establishments may have happy hours or weekly specials, during which you can enjoy low food and drink costs. If you are staying a hotel, ask if the hotel has any affiliation with local businesses where you may be able to receive a discount.
Do what the locals do
The most expensive restaurants, hotels and attractions are those that cater specifically to tourists. Often, these establishments are conveniently located, but they offer little in the way of value. Instead, seek out places frequented by the local population. Ask around for recommendations. Most people will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Many places that are considered expensive can be visited without shelling out massive amounts of cash. Keep the above tips in mind in order to travel on a budget regardless of your destination.

Star Quality Toronto Limo Services Less

Author: Sa Perillo

Whether it’s walking through eclectic neighborhoods, or camping out in the woods, or riding a Pearson Airport Limousine to a posh event, you will surely find yourself toasting champagne while being the toast of town.

The truth is that swank in this busy Canadian city, comes cheap. The cost of renting Toronto limousine services, for example, is as just as much as say, taking a cab in New York or London. Yes, folks, you could say that Toronto limos are as iconic and as integral to daily life in the city as yellow taxis, black cabbies, jeepneys or tuktuks are in other cities around the world.

The trick to this though, is to plan ahead and to book in advance. Are you travelling to Toronto in the near future? Will you be having a corporate event in two weeks? Or a prom? A wedding? A date? A bachelorette party?

How many passengers do you expect to ride with you? 15, eight or two? Your boss? Your department? Your best buddies? Or maybe just you and your special someone?

What kind of car would you like to ride? A good thing to remember is to look for Toronto limousines companies that offer newer cars in their fleet. This will give you more value for your time and money. You might end up riding a beat down jalopy for very cheap. You may as well have taken the bus in this case.

Of course, you have to ask about the extra charges that come with renting a Toronto limousine service. This all depends on what type of event you will use it for. If it’s to pick up a VIP boss at the investor at the airport, or better yet, to pick you up and tour you around, you should ask if their charges include toll fees. If it’s for an event, ask if the parking fees for restaurants and hotels come with the packages.

Are you willing to get extra services like tours, music and baggage carrying? Or do you just want the basic pick-up and drop off? Either way, you should not be afraid of asking as many questions as you want about Toronto limousine rentals. Get down to the nitty-gritty now to make sure your experience in the near future will be ask enjoyable and as special as possible. Ask them about car models, driving skills, and tenure in the industry.

Check blogs for testimonials, and ask friends and family members about their experiences with a particular Toronto limo company. Did they like it? Why or why not? Would they recommend this Toronto limo service to you?

With a little inquiry, you will be cruising to and from the city’s sports complexes, ravines, parks, rock festivals and food destinations in a Toronto limo.

Top Shopping Destinations for 2012

By Farrah M Hedwat

No matter what part of New York you're in, you'Shopping is a language that's internationally recognised and loved no matter where you live - usually for fashion items but also homewares, antiques, food and plenty more! There are many cities that are celebrated for their fabulous shopping possibilities, so this is a (by no means exhaustive) shortlist of some of the best shopping destinations from different parts of the world:
New York - USA
re not likely to be more than a few blocks away from a shopping opportunity, whether it's big-name brands, unique independent stores or huge malls you're looking for.
Situated right at the centre of the action, Fifth Avenue caters for every pocket as well as being conveniently placed for many of New York's sightseeing landmarks. Here you'll find heavyweights such as Louis Vuitton and Tiffany's just a short walk from high-street names like H&M and Forever 21, as well as the cavernous Abercrombie & Fitch flagship store!
New York is also home to some of the world's most famed department stores including Saks, Macy's and Bloomingdale's. Bargain-hunters can also revel in cut-rate designer fashions at Century 21 - conveniently placed for sightseers visiting Ground Zero.
If outlet shopping is your thing and you have a day to spare, you can take a one-hour bus journey out to Woodbury Common, which has over 220 stores including sportswear, designer shops, home furnishings, jewellery and loads more at knock-down prices.
Dubai - UAE
The people of Dubai love shopping so much, they even hold a festival in its honour! The annual Dubai Shopping Festival is a month-long event that attracts about 3 million tourists to Dubai every year. It began in 1996 and holds daily car raffles, nightly firework shows and countless other events, as well as massive shopping discounts and promotions, which is an even more attractive prospect when you consider that shopping in Dubai is already tax-free.
Mall-shopping is often the most practical option in Dubai, as soaring summer temperatures mean it's too hot to roam the city streets for half the year. One of the most highly recommended is The Village Mall just off Jumeirah Road, which houses a mix of unusual, unique designer shops and more popular international brands. The Mall of the Emirates is one of the city's largest shopping centres whose highlights include the world-famous indoor ski slope.
Another unmissable aspect of Dubai shopping is the Souks, which are frequented by tourists and locals alike, all doing their best to haggle for a bargain!
Milan - Italy
Milan is one of the world's fashion capitals and is synonymous with the biggest names in designer fashion such as Armani, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci, all of whom set up their original boutiques in this city.
As Italy's top source of 'alta moda' (high fashion), Milan is home to one of the four "International Fashion Weeks". Milan fashions are seen as the epitome of chic (albeit not necessarily cheap!) - the headquarters of most of Italy's top designers are housed here, so even if you're not intending to buy, a visit to their flagship stores could be just as much considered sightseeing as shopping!
Fortunately, most of these huge names are conveniently housed in the Square made up of Via della Spiga, Montenapoleone, Manzoni and Sant'Andrea. For those travelling without the gold-plated credit card, you can find designer items slashed to half price at the 10 Corso Como Outlet. However, bargain-hunters should beware of street traders touting replica designer rip-offs.
London - England
As with any capital city, London is as much a destination for shopping trips as it is for taking in the sights. Whether you're shopping for a bespoke suit from Savile Row or something more alternative and unique from Camden Market, London's underground system can transport you round the city in a matter of minutes.
Oxford Street is a heaven for high street shopping, although the crowds and queues can be quite hellish! For a more upmarket experience, Mayfair or Knightsbridge are both home to many of the big designer names.
London is also home to Harrods, the world's most famous department store and as much a tourist attraction as a shopping destination. Harrods is probably most famed for the claim that they could obtain "Everything for Everyone, Everywhere" and the subsequent rumour that US President Reagan once ordered a baby elephant from the store. Other department stores include the flagship Selfridges and Harvey Nichols, as well as food emporium Fortnum & Mason.
Note: It may not escape notice that Paris, France is not listed; this is not because it isn't deemed a "Top Shopping Destination", but rather because I wanted to get a good global spread, having already included London and Milan which are also within Europe.
Happy Shopping!
Farrah Hedwat

7 Important Rock Climbing Terms

By Shivki Wayne

Rock climbing is a sport that's enjoyed by many people, and there are a number of things for beginners and experts to know about this activity. Rock climbing terms are used to refer to particular equipment and techniques and knowledge is essential for communication. You will find here the most important climbing terms for equipment and techniques.
An abseil or rappel is the process by which climber descends down a variety of ropes.
Belaying is a method of protecting climbers by passing ropes around or through an anchor point. This can be controlled by a person or the stationary object that serves as an anchor point. There are several requests that a climber can make to the person in charge of the belay point, and they're also essential rock climbing terms. Belay on is used to warn that a climber is using the rope. Belay off can also be used to confirm the climb is over, and the safety device is no longer needed.
Bouldering occurs when climbers practice their skills on large rocks or boulders. This type of climbing usually only requires pads for protection, and in this case belaying is not applicable.
A chimney is two rock faces that are close together, and appeals to climbers who are interested in making a chimney climb. The two surfaces provide an ideal way for a climber to ascend using the opposing faces for support and holds.
Crampons are devices that are used to climb on ice, and they serve as spikes that are used to provide toe holds during a climb.
Free climbing is when a climber attempts their climb with no safety equipment. This can often be dangerous, but many climbers prefer to ascend rocks with no ropes in their way.
A sharp end of a rope is the edge that's being used by the lead climber. This term can also be used to signify the lead climber of a group.
There are also several rope techniques, and they're named after the number of ropes that are used during the climb. A single rope technique relies on a safety rope that is attached to a single anchor point. A double rope technique involved two ropes that are affixed to a common belay point.
A few rock climbing terms are essential for communication in this dangerous sport, and some of the most common terms have been listed and described in detail for climbers to use during their next outing.

Murree & The Gulliyats

They are a series of wonderful Hill-resorts on the ridge between Murree and Abbottabad and are more attractive than other cities. Murree is a very popular hill station about 50 km north of the capital Islamabad while Abbottabad is a city in NWFP province with a very British atmosphere. However, between them is a wonderful road which has been fully repaired from being the "highway to hell" to being an excellent 2 lane road and protection on the sides. The main tourist stay on this road is the town of Nathia Gali and the resort of Ayubia. Nathia Gali is known as the City of Fog for it can get very foggy here. The usual definition of fog doesn't stand here.
Fog means visibility reduced to 1 km here fog mean visibility reduced to a few feet. Also, this area receives the highest rainfall in Pakistan and it always seems to be raining here (which is very good). But the main beauty of this area isn't high mountains, it's the greenery. Lush green hills and mountains with wonderful pine trees. The wild life of this area is pretty good. There is no place in this area where you won't find monkeys, real free monkeys. They are everywhere, in your hotel lobby windows, in the open barbecue, on the road; just everywhere you cannot miss them. The area is just brilliant with good hotels and all facilities. By the way, it can get pretty cool out here even in the summers so bring something warm.

Discovering the History of Washington DC on Student Tours

By Robert Emdur

Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia) is located on the Potomac River between the States of Virginia and Maryland. Since the founding of the nation, Washington D.C. has been a federal district and is, therefore, not a part of any state. Student tours to the area can explore the political history of the district, which is governed by a locally elected mayor and a 13-member council. Students will also have the opportunity to visit many of the iconic locations that are at the heart of the American government. While in the city, there are several vital sites to cement a student's understanding of the workings of the American political system past and present. These include the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol, and the Washington Monument.
The White House - At the famous address of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, separated from the road by a large expanse of grass, sits the White House. As the official home to the United States President, it is high on the list of things to see in Washington D.C. Built between 1792 and 1800, it has 132 rooms (including the famed Oval Office), 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels. It is also the only private residence of a head of state that is open to the public free of charge. Tours must generally be arranged through a request from a member of Congress, or organised through professional companies that provide student tours.
The Lincoln Memorial - Located in a cluster of monuments in the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial was built by Henry Bacon in the early 1900s. The sculpture of The United States' 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was carved by artist Daniel Chester French in 1920 and has Lincoln's two major speeches (His "Second Inaugural Address" and his "Gettysburg Address") carved into the sides of the base. Not only is the site iconic in its own right, but it has been the location of several equally famous speeches throughout the history of America, including Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's "I Had A Dream" speech. Young learners on student tours cannot help but be inspired by such a revered site.
The Capitol Building - Officially named, "The United States Capitol", a visit to the Capitol Building is a must on any student tours of Washington D.C. The Capitol Building is the meeting place of the nation's legislature, which includes the Senate and the House of Representatives. In addition, the building, which was built between 1793 and 1800, also houses an important collection of American art, is a major tourist attraction, and also functions as a working office building.
The Washington Monument - Near the west end of the National Mall stands the large obelisk built to commemorate the first president of the United States - George Washington. Those on student tours to the National Mall will learn the monument is both the world's largest stone structure and its tallest obelisk, with a height reaching over 169 metres. Designed by Robert Mills, construction began in 1848 but was not completed until 1884. Students can make their way up the 152 metres to the observation level and see a vast panorama of the seat of America's government.
Robert Emdur works for Equity Student Travel, the UK's leading specialist in group travel for students in higher and further education. We organise student tours to destinations around the world covering a wide range of subjects, as well as conference & event-focused trips.

Virgin Atlantic Airlines - The History
Randolph Fields and Alan Hellary set up British Atlantic Airways to succeed Laker Airways. In 1982, Fields has an idea to commence flight operations between London and Falkland Island and sought out service help from the former chief pilot Hellary. Their plan didn't work and they had another plan to secure license for operations between Gatwick Airport and John F. Kennedy international Airport in New York City which ended in failure. Their plan to secure license for flight operations between Gatwick and Newark Liberty International Airport was successful and a 380-seat DC-10 was chosen for operation. To face the challenge, operational security was necessary and they decided to increase funds.
Fields met Richard Branson in a party and they shared opinions to become business partners. They renamed the airlines as Virgin Atlantic and the operations were successfully commenced in 1984. Adventure Travel Destination: Gulag Prison Camp Perm-36

By RJ Wattenhofer

The Gulag penal system goes down in history as the most inhumane and barbaric means ever utilized by the Russian authorities to punish Soviet criminals and dissidents. Millions of hopeless souls were transported across the desolate Siberian Hinterland and deposited in crudely constructed work camps spread across the frozen permafrost, never to heard from again. None was more infamous or inspired more terror in the proletariat than Gulag Prison Camp Perm-36.
Reminiscent of Nazi concentration camps, Perm-36 was the harshest work camp the Soviet officials could devise, specifically designed to house formidable political dissidents, outspoken writers, abstract artists and anyone else who was considered an immediate threat to the communist ideals touted by the Russian government. Once considered a death sentence to be sent there, it is now a carefully preserved memorial and reminder to the world of what governments are capable of when faced with open opposition to their regime.
HISTORY
World War II was finished and Stalin was now faced with the daunting task of reconstruction. Severe damage was inflicted on Russian cities along the Western border (the Nazi's referred to this as the Eastern Front during the war) and were in dire need of repair. Figuring he could kill two birds with one stone, Stalin ordered the construction of logging camps around the Perm region, approximately 1,400 km due East of Moscow, on the border of the Siberian Hinterland. Here, 150,000 undesirables were dispersed throughout one hundred fifty work camps and assigned the task of providing much-needed lumber for Western cities.
Known officially as ITK-6 camp, the notorious Perm-36 was quickly filled with one thousand of the "worst of the worst" offenders. The inmates were divided into four inhospitable sleeping barracks, where they were allowed seven hours sleep every night, the time spent freezing under thin blankets as arctic winds blasted through wide cracks in the wooden walls. Along with the barracks, the camp also had a headquarters building, a rudimentary hospital and a horrific punishment block, where dissidents were sent if the authorities felt that maybe they were enjoying their winter vacation a bit too much.
The reformatory camp had the most stringent work schedule of any of the Perm work camps. Prisoners were awakened each morning at six a.m. sharp, given a meager breakfast and then promptly marched an hour and a half to the forest to begin logging. There they were forced to cut down massive aspen and oak trees with hand saws and then cart the timber to the Chusovaya and Kama rivers, which floated the timber Southwest to the Volga. After nine hours of non-stop labor, the dissidents were marched back to camp, given dinner and then sent to the barracks. Rinse and repeat. It is unclear if this rigorous schedule actually helped reform anyone, as a great majority ended up dead and the remainder were permanently damaged both mentally and physically.
The Soviet government, on the other hand, was quite pleased with the results. Feeling they were really on to something here, they formally named Perm-36 the official residence of the worst Soviet political prisoners and, in 1972, converted the Gulag into a fully functioning, modernized prison camp. Enemies of the state continued to be sent here to work and rot away until 1987, when it was finally closed.
The most famous dissident to be sentenced to the Gulag prison system was writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn. After his arrest for writing critical comments about Joseph Stalin, he was sentenced to eight years of hard labor. This terrible experience formed the foundation for his critically acclaimed works One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich and The Gulag Archipelago, his searing account of Soviet labor camps.
THE AREA TODAY
Soon after Perestroika in the 1980's, the labor camps were systematically dismantled and the door quietly shut on this dark period in Russian history. The one remaining camp is Perm-36, chosen for preservation by human rights activists in the former Soviet Union because of it's particularly diabolical nature. The site is now the Memorial Center Museum for the History of Political Repression, with all the original fences and buildings intact. Frozen in time, it is a vivid reminder of what lengths governments will go to repress the human spirit.
Ironically, because of the Russian government's practice of sending their best and brightest writers and artists to reside in the work camps, the nearby city of Perm has become a mecca for Soviet artists. Along with the prisoners, several theatrical companies also moved to the area during World War II to escape Soviet repression. This influx of creative individuals has turned Perm into a major center for the arts, hosting museums and galleries that rival those found in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
You will need to book and international flight to either Moscow, Russia (DME) or to Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia (GOJ). From there, you will take a ninety minute flight to Bolshoye Savino Airport, located in Perm, Russia (PEE).
Car travel is the most expedient means of making your way to Perm-36. You can rent a car right at the Perm airport upon your flight arrival. Perm hosts modern hotel chains (such as the Hilton) for a comfortable stay in between your daily touring excursions. The Memorial Center Museum for the History of Political Repression is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed Mondays.
After your travels, I would enjoy hearing about your experiences, so feel free to contact me via the website below and send me and email.

Feel Like A Local In Your Paris Luxury Apartment

Author: ParisLuxe

Sophisticated travelers already know this secret. The best way to feel like a local when you travel is to rent an apartment rather than staying in a hotel. It’s the best way to feel like a local and not a tourist who stays in luxury hotels in Paris.

How is the experience different? For one, you have the key to your very own luxury Paris apartment, as if you live in Paris full time. So you immediately feel another vibe than that of a hotel room or suite.

You will notice it immediately upon entering your Paris luxury apartment. The furnishings will not be hotel style, because this is someone’s home you are renting and it has been furnished with care. The ambiance will be welcoming and interesting.

Unlike the mini-bars or small kitchens in most luxury hotels in Paris, your luxury Paris apartment will have a fully equipped kitchen with all the appliances you need, including a washer and dryer. This means you can feel like a local and go shopping at the open air markets and supermarket, shop for your favorite wines and cheeses, and frequent the local bakery for your baguette and pastries. You can bring home as much as you want and you can create your own meals, just as if you lived in Paris.

You’ll more than likely have more than one bathroom to choose from, unlike a hotel room. More closets. More square footage. More room to line up your books and personal items. Already you are feeling “at home” rather than “visiting” in the luxury hotels in Paris.

On your first day you will probably want to go out to dine. Visit one of the local restaurants that have been personally recommended to you by the owners of your apartment. Following their leads you will soon feel as if you have stepped into their shoes. Relying on the guidance of the concierge at luxury hotels in Paris usually means that they are sending you to locations that have something in it for them in return, or to where they think you as a “tourist” would like to go.

The owners of your Paris luxury apartment will leave you informational details such as where the dry cleaner is or where they buy their paper. After a few days you will be living much as they do---as a Parisian and not as a transient passing through. The longer you book your luxury Paris apartment, the longer you will have to absorb the lifestyle. The longer you book your luxury Paris apartment, the more economical it becomes compared to staying in luxury hotels in Paris that can cost thousands a day.

Another tip to feel like a local rather than a tourist is to arrange ahead of time to meet your luxury Paris apartment contact with extra time scheduled to have them walk you around the neighborhood and briefly point out where things are. Get their mobile phone number. This is your new friend. The one you know will be there for you in a way someone standing behind the counter at a hotel can never be.

Remember. You are renting someone’s home. Not a room in one of the luxury hotels in Paris. You have a key to their personal kingdom. Treat it as your home, and in doing so you will by osmosis feel as an owner would, as a local living in Paris would.

Try traveling like a local and not a tourist. When you do, you are opening up new worlds that could never have been experienced if you traveled as a tourist. New friends. New insights. New feelings of compassion for another culture. New acceptance that although we are all different, in our homes we are very much the same. The only way to achieve this ideal is to rent a Paris luxury apartment.

The Strangest Hotels in the World

By Aaliyah Arthur

When you are getting ready to take a trip, the hotel you are staying in may not be the first thing on your priority list. However, some of the world's most unusual hotels make a destination in and of themselves, and travel buffs may want to plan a vacation around some of these locales.
Harlingen Harbour Crane, Netherlands
This hotel, which is just one bi-level room, is actually housed inside a former crane for hauling timber. In other words, when you book this room, you will actually be sleeping in a crane. It is filled with luxury amenities like high tech lighting and plasma televisions, and you will enjoy panoramic views of the harbor. If you do not like the view, simply access the control panel to literally swing your room around!
Giraffe Manor, Kenya
Giraffe Manor is, as its name implies, an old manor house complete with 19th-century period furnishings. The rooms are not the unusual part of this hotel, although they may be a bit more luxurious than your standard chain hotels. What makes this hotel stand out is the fact that giraffes roam the grounds. It is not unusual for one of the gentle giants to literally stick its head in the breakfast room to get a treat in the morning!
Canopy Tower, Panama
A stay in Canopy Tower in Panama gives guests the chance to stand on a dome 30 feet above the forest canopy of Panama's Soberania National Park. This is a favorite spot for birders, because it gives an opportunity to spot some of the world's rarest species in their natural habitat. The hotel itself has just 12 double rooms, but they are quite spacious and spread across five levels, so you will be comfortable while staying here.
Dasparkhotel, Austria
This hotel is not for claustrophobic individuals! Here you will stay in 10-ton reinforced concrete drainpipes measuring just 6.5 feet in diameter on the shores of the Danube. There is not even room for a TV in these units, and all you have for light is a small lamp and a tiny skylight. Staying in one of these rooms is an experience you will not soon forget, that is for certain.
Marmara Antalya, Turkey
Most hotels have revolving doors; only Turkey features a revolving hotel - Marmara Antalya. It offers guests an ever-changing view of the Mediterranean, but make sure you book a revolving room, as the hotel also has a non-revolving building on its grounds. The building is equipped with six electric motors that make a full rotation four times daily.
Kokopelli's Cave Bed and Breakfast, New Mexico
You do not have to travel outside of the United States to stay in one of the world's most unique hotels. Kokopelli's Cave Bed and Breakfast invites guests to travel 70 feet below the New Mexican mesa to stay in a spacious 1,650 square foot apartment literally built into the cave. It includes a full kitchen and laundry facilities, a hot tub, and a waterfall-inspired shower.

Travel Guide to Washington State

By James Pattonius

State of Washington, located on the very northeastern part of the main part of USA, is also called the evergreen state. The name says everything and you can imagine how great and picturesque your road trip is going to be. While traveling in western and eastern part of the state you can feel the drastic change in climate.
Washington is a large agricultural state with rich soil perfect for the crop cultivation and the part that are not set for the farms are covered in woods of the national parks. Considering that the whole state is covered in woods, cities are all green and lush. Biggest cities that any tourist can visit are Seattle, Tacoma City and Spokane. All three are infamous and well revered with the Tacoma City's dense amount of museums, art galleries and exhibitions, Spokane's parks and of course the emerald city of Seattle. Almost all of the names were originated from the Native American language, as the entire land was heavily populated by the natives as hunting grounds because of the thick forests full of wildlife.
The nature of the state of Washington is something one can go over and over. It is amazing how in one state two completely different climates can be fitted, from moist marine weather on the cost to dry desert air. The majority of the territory is taken by the national parks, refuges that are counted well over fifty, from the coast to the mountain ranges and beyond that. The Cascade Range is famous for its volcanic mountains which are all active; however only one is erupting at this moment, even one of the mountains is considered to be the most dangerous one on continental USA territory with close proximity to Seattle metropolitan area.
Best way to enjoy all that beauty is by traveling by a car. Unlike other states Washington D.C. auto insurance laws are not all that severe and auto insurance companies like PEMCO auto insurance are easy to deal with. Even though the state's minimum liability is bit high 25/50/10, you should not worry yourself about it unless you plan to have a long-term stay in which case you will require Washington auto insurance. Anyway, you do have to check with your current auto insurance companies to make sure that they will not automatically raise the liability minimum as soon as you drive in Washington.

Camping Packing Lists - What To Take Camping

By Anna Rumg Rainforest Camping

We take a lot for granted living in our homes with everything we need readily accessible. Forgetting to bring an important item when tent camping can make for a less than desirable experience. For this reason making a camping packing list before getting ready for your trip is a very good idea.
Camping can be as minimal for extravagant an experience as you please; whatever suits your personality. Our family once went camping with two other families and the differences between the campsites couldn't have been more vast. One family had brought the bare necessities to enjoy a comfortable time in the woods. The other family, or rather the wife and mother, had brought along a very nice throw rug to put in front of their tent. She brought a vase and flowers to place on top of her picnic table that was covered by a beautiful linen tablecloth. She treated us all to a very elaborate brunch one morning that included champagne in chilled glasses.
This was all exceptionally nice, but definitely over the top for me and I would guess for many others campers. But this example illustrates the length one can go to if they so choose.
What to Bring On Your Camping Trip
A week or so before you head out on your camping trip start making a camping list of all the things you use on a daily basis. Simple things like toothpaste or deodorant can be easily overlooked when packing if not jotted down. If your chosen campsite is not in close proximity to a convenience store this could make for an uncomfortable get away.
Then there are the things you don't use on a regular basis that will be needed at the campsite. A good quality tent, air mattresses, sleeping bags, a cookstove, lanterns, flashlights and batteries are all basic camping gear. Cots can be nice addition for the older members of your family or if you are camping in areas where the ground is not level.
Making Meals At Your Campsite
When it comes to meal preparation, I like to go through the menu I have planned for the week or weekend, whatever length of time we will be away, and then mentally go through the utensils, pots and pans needed to prepare the meals.
Meats can be frozen and placed in an ice chest that will not be opened often, helping to keep them fresh. When camping for long periods of time, you will want to use the food that has a tendency to spoil more quickly first.
Around The Campfire
The campfire is one of the best parts of camping. We sit with our family and friends telling tales, being hypnotized by the flames and the stories. A few things to add to your camping supply list would be folding chairs, marshmallow roasters, a fire poker, a hatchet to split wood, newspaper and matches to get the fire started.
Family Activities
Gathering the toys you will be playing with while on your vacation is very important. Fishing poles and tackle, water toys, games, cards, binoculars for bird watching - whatever you and yours enjoy doing while you have this quality downtime.
These suggestions are by no means complete, but it should help get you started on your camping packing list and trigger the important items you will need on your camping vacation.

Five Heroes Of Mountaineering

Author : Jude Limburn

Adventure holidays have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially where mountain trekking is concerned routes such as the Inca Trail, Annapurna Circuit and Everest Base Camp have become some of the do before you die holiday experiences for the more adventurous traveller. But while plenty of people enjoy going on trekking holidays to great mountain ranges, climbing the most difficult peaks is a far greater challenge. There are countless great mountaineers who have risked life and limb to conquer the highest, toughest and most dangerous mountains in the world, but there are a few that stand out from the crowd as true mountaineering heroes...

George Mallory

One of the heroes of the climbing world, and perhaps the most famous mountaineer of all, Englishman George Mallory became famous for a series of unsuccessful (and ultimately tragic) attempts to summit Mount Everest (8848m) in the 1920 s. In what became a burning obsession, Mallory led three attempts on the summit. On the third attempt, on the 8th June 1924 he, and his climbing partner Andrew Irvine, disappeared somewhere on the slopes of Everest. Fierce debate has raged ever since as to whether or not Mallory and Irvine made it to the summit before they died. His famous quote (Because it is there, in response to a journalist asking why he wished to climb Everest) has inspired countless mountain lovers on their trekking holidays and climbing expeditions ever since.

Maurice Herzog

In 1950, French mountaineer Maurice Herzog made history by being the first person to successfully summit a peak over eight thousand metres above sea level Annapurna I (8091m). He lost his gloves on the way up, and the terrible weather on the descent almost claimed the life of Herzog and his fellow climbers. Frostbite cost him most of his fingers and toes, but he managed to make it down alive. His book of the experience, Annapurna, became a massive best seller and trekking holidays in and around the Annapurna massif are hugely popular today but only a few elite climbers have repeated Herzog s feat and made it to the top of Annapurna I.

Sir Edmund Hillary

While a trekking holiday to Everest Base Camp is within the capabilities of most fit hikers, the summit of the world s highest mountain eluded mountaineers for decades. New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary will forever be famous, alongside his climbing partner Sherpa Tenzing, for being one of the first men to finally make it to the top of the mountain in 1953.

Reinhold Messner

Reinhold Messner s biography reads like a list of mountaineering records and world firsts. Born in Italy in 1944, he was one of the first two people to make a successful ascent of Mount Everest without bottled oxygen, the first person to make a solo ascent of Everest (also without oxygen), the first climber to successfully summit all fourteen eight thousanders, and so on. In terms of raw achievement, Messner can be considered to be the world s greatest mountaineer, living or dead.

Joe Simpson

Joe Simpson has become a modern day mountaineering hero due to a near death experience in 1985 in the Peruvian Andes. While attempting to climb the west face of Siula Grande (6344m), a route that had never been successfully attempted, he first broke his leg, then fell down a crevasse after his partner was forced to cut the rope connecting them. Astonishingly, despite suffering from hypothermia, dehydration and the severe pain of his broken leg, after three and a half days he managed to crawl back to their base camp to be rescued. His book of the experience, Touching the Void, has become one of the contemporary classics of mountaineering literature, and was recently made into an award winning documentary.

Exploring Philippines Through Kayaking

Another booming outdoor recreation in the Philippines is kayaking. More and more people, including foreign tourists in the country, are getting hooked to this aquatic sport. With more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines is indeed a perfect destination for kayaking enthusiasts.

Recently, the Department of Tourism launched a program promoting kayaking as a way of exploring various travel destinations across the archipelago. Officials believe that kayaking can entice more international tourists to visit the Philippines, which is home to festive events, premier attractions, and colorful festivals.

One thing that differentiates kayaking from other water sports is that it does not ruin our environment. One can move freely above crystal-clear waters or explore secret coves and inlets while enjoying fascinating views of the countrys various natural wonders such as mangrove forests, limestone cliffs, and unspoiled coastlines.

Kayaking experts said the sport is easy yet challenging. One just needs dexterity and sheer courage to cut across seas, lakes, and other bodies of water. Several resorts and vacation rentals in the country include kayaking in their holiday packages. Safety always comes first, as most accommodations ensure that their clients are equipped with proper gears and equipment when paddling across water.

There are many declared kayaking havens in the Philippines. Here are some of them.

Caramoan
A must-include site in your next kayaking trip is Caramoan peninsula in Camarines Sur. This natural wonder is home to fascinating limestone formations, rugged coastlines, and sand-ringed islands. A visual treat of its stunning underwater environment awaits kayaking adventurers in Caramoan.

Palawan
Enjoy the island paradise of Palawan through kayaking. The southern province is known for its idyllic beaches, exotic caves, and rich marine resources. The best kayaking sites in Palawan are located in El Nido and Coron.

Cebu
Cebu is not only popular for its delicious dried mangoes. The province is also making a name in kayaking, as it continues to draw attention to paddling in Hilutungan Island and Marine Sanctuary, Sulpa Island, Olango Island, and Mactan Island.

Bohol
Aside from the Chocolate Hills and tarsier sanctuaries, Bohol is renowned for its marvelous beaches. The province is also catching up as one of the premier kayaking destinations in the country. It is home to ideal paddling sites such as Banacon Island, Pandanon Island, Dumog and Ubay Islands, Abatan River, and Punta Cruz.

Samar
Not to be outdone is Samar. Other than San Juanico Bridge, the longest in Southeast Asia, the province is luring both local and foreign tourist with its prime kayaking spots. Explore Marabut and the Sohoton Natural Bridge Park while paddling across its unspoiled waters.

Other notable kayaking spots in the Philippines include the Hundred Islands National Park in Pangasinan, Siargao Island, and Samal Island.

The Caribbean is a beautiful part of the world and is one of the most popular tourist destinations. It has stunning beaches with soft sand and crystal waters, plenty of historic sights, activities, and a vibrant nightlife. A travel agent can help design a tailor made trip that suits your wishes. Lake Louise - The Gem Of Canada

Author : John Harding

If you have only ever seen videos and brochures for ski holidays, Lake Louise is well known as one of Canada's most famous and picturesque holiday spots year round. Tours from Banff National Park include guided tours and GPS tours. A Guided tour would obviously include a guide who knows the terrain well. A GPS tours are available for those independent types who enjoy taking their time without a personal guide.

A True Diamond in the Wilderness

Lake Louise is a rare gem of an area, to say the least. Not many places on Earth offer the spectacular vistas and variety that keeps people visiting year after year. Every season has something to offer and there's never a dull moment.

Summertime sports include golf, horseback riding, hiking and biking. Fall greets travelers with bright, vivid colors as the trees turn from green to red and gold. Winter sees an influx of skiers and winter sports including cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. Spring re-news the area with lovely, natural flora and fauna.

The Hiking Capital of Canada

Hiking trails are readily available for those who enjoy sticking to a safer path. Lake Louise is the central attraction for nearly 170 miles of hiking trails. The numbers increase exponentially for those who do not stick to predestined trails and would rather face the wilderness alone.

Hiking may be one of the main attractions, but there are many non-hiker activities for those who do not hike. Motorized vehicle tours take visitors to many beautiful places for photo opportunities and to view wildlife from the safety of a vehicle.

The "Other" Lake

Lake Louise isn't the only impressive body of water in the vicinity. Moraine Lake, which is only open during the summer, plays host to many holidaymakers during operational months.

Take the Rockpile interpretative trail at some point during your stay. The trail offers the best views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks and Moraine Lake itself.

Take caution when hiking past Moraine to the Consolation Lakes. Some areas may caution you to the presence of bear. This is home to a young male grizzly bear that doesn't cause problems for visitors. He is quite small, yet instills a feeling of awe and humility, simply knowing you are treading in his home.

Activities at Lake Louise and Banff

Picturesque sceneries make the area the perfect wedding location. Make that sunset wedding by a lake a reality.

Pledge your love and devotion on top of a mountain overlooking any number of incredible vistas. Simply enjoy the company of your love in a high elevation meadow, surrounded by a variety of wildflowers.

Tours are available via guided tour or GPS tour. Your adventure level determines where you will go and how you will enjoy your time at Banff National Park. Sightseeing is an incredible experience whether you hire a guide or take a GPS unit.

White water rafting down nearby Kicking Horse River offers a rush for adrenaline junkies looking for that next big fix. People who don't enjoy the thrill of white water rafting may enjoy another, slower paced boat ride tour instead.

Skiing during late fall and throughout the winter is an incredible experience for well seasoned skiers as well as beginners. More than 4200 skiable acres with 139 named runs and virtually limitless off-piste adventures make it a true skier's paradise.

The Banff National Park welcomes nature lovers throughout the year and shows her many faces during each season. It is truly a gemstone of a park waiting to be discovered.

Asia Is An Extraordinary Place To Visit

Author : John Parks

Traveling in Asia is a journey and adventure encompassing a wide range of countries, nightlife, restaurants, places of interest due to their historical value, and cultures. From China and Japan to countries such as Vietnam, India, Burma, Uzbekistan, and more, Asia is a place where a visitor can experience many different cultures and countries, each with it s own history, own background, unique values and regulations, and it s own opportunities for exciting, new escapades. The first thing for a person who plans to be a guest of Asia to do is to decide on which country or countries to visit; and, with the number of choices to pick from as far as the continent goes, picking just one or a few, though a pleasurable task, isn t a thing many would find easy to do.

A visitor to any Asian country should become familiar with the customs, culture, and places of interest available at their intended destination and carry plenty of credit cards, differing denominations of cash, and other forms of monetary resources. Guests of Asia can plan on coming across plenty of nightspots, museums, other historical venues of note, many wonderful restaurants, and other such places to spend their money. Each country within the continent of Asia is an undertaking to explore in and of itself, and travelers are in for a pleasant, relaxing, luxurious experience no matter which of them they choose from. Inside many countries in Asia, a trip to some of the popular restaurants inside a city or municipality can be an unbelievably sensual undergoing in terms of the quality of the culinary delights available to the guest, the promptness of service, and the authenticity of the dishes presented.

In addition to the sumptuous, incalculably authentic food many of those who plan to become guests of Asia can look forward to enjoying on their trips into their intended destinations, the landscape of most, if not all, Asian countries is another beauteous thing to look forward to. The beautiful bays, impeccable views of the ocean, ceaseless deserts, winding rivers, tropical flora and fauna, and snow capped mountains which dot the land within Asia and throughout all of the countries inside of it can, certainly more often than not, be sights unparalleled to visitor to Asia who have the opportunity to see them. The natural diversity of the scenery and the plants and animals within it is altogether an earthy, unspoiled happening to flock to any Asian country to be a part of.

Lovely scenery and filling, nutritious dishes aside, another bright spot all Asian countries contain are the places visitors come to see for their historical value. Places like the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, ancient palaces, and residences belonging to long dead maharajahs are locations a significant number of people visit not to gain a thrill, but for the thrill of being at such locations which have such strong ties to the past and such a deep, real sense of meaning to the countries and civilizations which had a hand in making them. Asia is an extraordinary place to visit.
